Ouch!

I have just returned from the grocery store and I am having heart palpatations at how high my bill was. It's not like I was going crazy or anything! I didn't buy any magazines. I didn't by prepackaged, precooked, or pre-prepared anything. Just the basics... produce, lunch stuff, and the ingredients for a few favorite recipes.

I used to be a coupon girl, but as the amount of children in our house increased, my coupon clipping became a luxury of time that I just didn't seem to get to. I still always shop the ads and make my list based on what's on sale. But it just doesn't seem to make that big of a difference any more.

So - here we go ladies. What is your best money saving tip for the grocery store? Do tell.

Aldi!

Despite the fact that it's inconvenient in that you need to bring your own bags and loan a quarter to use a cart, the prices are worth it. Although my husband is the one who deals with it for me, so it's easy for me to talk!

Hmm... I'd say my best money saving tip for the grocery store is don't go. Seriously, go out to eat, it's so much easier. Oh wait, you have four kids, maybe that's not easier. My method isn't really cheaper. In fact, it's more expensive, but way more fun (sans the kids.) A serious tip? Shop in Cannon Falls. It's not cheaper, but there are way less choices to tempt you. :-) Also, I did read in the newspaper today that food prices are going up, but you knew that didn't you?

1. Open a free "Extra Care Card" at CVS.
2. Shop at CVS.
3. Earn "Extra Care Bucks" to be used on future purchases.

It's really like getting CVS gift cards just for shopping there...

The coupon mom website is awesome! www.couponmom.com

I print coupons from these two links and clip Sunday paper coupons. I take the money that my reciept says I've saved using coupons and put that into a special savings account. I use that to motivate myself to keeping clipping. Once you get into it and see the rewards, it becomes simple.

My big find this past month was the Grocery Game - www.grocerygame.com. They basically do the legwork of going through the ads and figuring out which items are at "rock-bottom" prices, then they match those things up to coupons, and tell you exactly which circular and what date they were in the paper. Amazing!

I have - NO KIDDING - gotten at least $300 worth of free things in my first month. It took a little time to figure out how to "play" the game, but I've gotten the hang of it, and it's simple now.

CVS and Cub are the stores... The deals at CVS are amazing - you end up getting things for free, plus MAKE money.

You can't tell I'm excited about this or anything?! I've told anyone who will listen... Rob is sick of hearing my talk about it. :o)
